Which test is widely recognised as the best indicator of the torn ACL. How many variations of this test do you know of?
Answer:
The Lachman test is widely recognised as the best indicator of the torn ACL.
There are 8 variations (Magee 2006). The Lachman Test assesses single plane anterior instability and the standard procedure is carried out with the examiner holding the patient’s knee between full extension and 30° knee flexion. The femur is stabilised with the upper hand of the examiner whilst the proximal tibia is moved anteriorly. A positive sign is indicated by a soft end feel in comparison to the un-injured leg.
