Veterinary Webinar provides Secrets for Anaesthesia in Rabbits

Default Image.

Monday’s veterinary webinar with leading specialist Kevin Eatwell of Edinburgh University provided a huge amount of essential information for anyone dealing with rabbit patients in practice. Some of the secrets he revealed included: take the rectal temperature of each patient on the morning of the procedure so that you have an accurate reference point. Rabbits are prone to hypothermia under anaesthesia, but they have a wide range of normal temperatures so you need to know what is normal for each patient. Intubation is a tricky procedure to learn but it’s worth it for the control you have over gaseous anaesthetic administration. Guidelines were given on how to intubate safely and when to stop and do something completely different to avoid harming your patient. Have you heard of laryngeal masks for rabbits? I hadn’t, and they look as though they’ll be very useful and decrease stress levels all round when they become available on the general market. There’s lots more including videos and study notes – have a look at Webinar Club now.
