Andrew Coughlan BVSc CertVA DSAS (Orth) PhD FRCVS

Andrew graduated from Liverpool in 1986 and spent four years in general practice, before moving to Edinburgh Veterinary School for a three year Surgical Residency dealing with referral orthopaedic and spinal cases. During this time he established total hip replacement surgery at Edinburgh. In 1993 he was awarded the Diploma of Fellowship of the RCVS by examination in 'Spinal diseases of the dog and cat' and in 1997 he completed a PhD in studies of the mechanisms behind cartilage breakdown in arthritis. Andrew gained the Diploma in Small Animal Surgery (Orthopaedics) in 1999.

He is currently Director and Senior Surgeon at Northwest Surgeons; an orthopaedic, spinal and soft tissue surgery referral service based in Frodsham, Cheshire, UK. Andrew is a Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Recognised Specialist in Surgery (Orthopaedics) and co-edited the BSAVA Manual of Fracture Repair and Management.
