Course outline
Lymphoid malignancy is commonly diagnosed and often managed in general practice. Module 2 will take you through some important aspects of cancer biology, explaining what drives the neoplastic process. This will lead on to discussion on the use of chemotherapy, how and why we use it to kill cancer and keep our patients safe! Throughout the module there will be a special focus on the management of lymphoma in dogs and cats, with emphasis on case management through induction, maintenance and rescue stages of treatment. There will be a special focus on health and safety for cytotoxic use in practice. Finally, recent developments and new techniques which are now entering mainstream practice will be discussed, bringing you right up to date with current trends in diagnostics.
Specific areas to be covered include:
• Cancer biology
• Chemotherapy – how, when and why!
• Management of lymphoma in dogs and cats
• First line vs. rescue therapy
• Health and safety for cytotoxic drugs in practice
• Cutting edge: recent advances in diagnostics for lymphoid malignancy
