Course outline
Cancer is not one disease and successful case management hangs on correctly identifying the disease and its extent. The first of our five modules will introduce you to the principles involved in approaching any cancer case. The speakers will guide you through successful staging and diagnosis with special emphasis on obtaining diagnostic biopsies first time round. Help with interpretation of that all important pathology report will be given, an essential part of case management which is often underutilised. All the major therapeutic modalities will be discussed in this module but special emphasis will be given to good surgical techniques - many cancers are cured by good surgery alone! There will be a special focus on mast cell tumours, the commonest skin tumour in dogs and a disease where our knowledge base has grown much in the last 5 years.

• Logical and structured approach to the cancer patient
• Accurate identification; getting your diagnosis
• Staging and determining prognosis
• Therapeutic options
• Surgical cure: refine your technique
• Which surgeries to refer and surgeries to approach in practice
• Mast cell tumour focus
