Course outline
In this module will you will learn about the biology and husbandry of parrots and its practical application in the consulting room. We will go through structured and achievable approaches to clinical examination and supportive care, along with guidelines for care of these birds in your practice. You need to know which diagnostic techniques can be performed in general practice and how to carry them out safely and effectively. We will also cover some of the more complex techniques that are likely to be performed at a referral centre. At the end of this module, you will have a logical plan for approaching these birds, diagnosing and treating them in practice.

Commonly presenting conditions, their diagnosis and treatment will be discussed together with specific tips to keep your patients alive!

Specific areas to be covered include:
• Essential biology and husbandry of parrots
• Practical handling: precautions and procedures
• Diagnostic techniques: in practice and referral centres
• Common medical and surgical presentations
• Surgery and anaesthesia
