Course outline
This module will concentrate on the chelonian species that you are likely to encounter in practice. Specific knowledge of the biology, nutrition and husbandry of these animals will enable you to discuss their pet’s care and treatment confidently with your clients. Medical and surgical conditions will be discussed, as will practical aspects of how you can safely and effectively anaesthetise these animals and carry out clinical techniques. Interactive case discussions will help you to gain maximum benefit from this module as you think about what you will actually do when presented with your next tortoise in practice.

• Essential biology, nutrition and husbandry of tortoises
• Tortoise hospitalisation in your practice
• Clinical examination and handling
• Common medical and surgical presentations
• Diagnosis and treatment options
• Interactive case discussions
