Course outline
Investigation of the dog or cat with thoracic disease is one of the most challenging problems that you face as a clinician in first opinion small animal practice. This two day course will take you through the entire assessment of such a patient, from tips on taking your history and performing a thorough clinical examination, through investigations using specific imaging modalities, concluding with your best treatment options for common diseases. During the course you will have the opportunity to directly apply theory during interactive case-based sessions.
Specific areas to be covered include:
• Thoracic radiography
• How to take the 'perfect radiograph'- tips for first opinion practice
• Lung patterns and what they mean- how to recognise and interpret them
• Common radiographical problems and artefacts
• Echocardiography- its role and uses in these patients
• Endoscopy- how to perform- what will it tell you?
• Bronchoalveolar lavage
