Course outline
Obtaining a good abdominal radiograph is essential for the accurate detection of radiographic abnormalities. Interpretation of abdominal radiographs can be problematic, as there are many soft tissue organs which need to be distinguished from each other and evaluated before abnormalities can be recognised. This course will help you to develop your skills and confidence in the interpretation of small animal abdominal radiographs. We will review the normal radiographic anatomy of the cat and dog abdomen, before considering the common radiographic changes encountered in disease. Film reading sessions in small groups will allow us to put these theoretical ideas into practice.
Specific areas to be covered include:
• Obtaining diagnostic abdominal radiographs in practice
• Normal radiographic anatomy
• Interpretation of plain abdominal radiographs
• The use of contrast media in abdominal radiography
