Course outline
Ensure that you are up to date with current thinking in small animal cardiology by attending this course. We will work through the approach to the small animal cardiology patient and simplify decision making with each patient so that you can apply learning directly to your practice situation. Presentations that you will commonly encounter, such as how to approach an asymptomatic murmur, will be covered and then we will use the same simple approach with increasingly complicated cases over the 2 days. Current “hot topics” that we will be discussing include developments in cardiac therapeutics, the use of Holter monitoring in practice and the cardiac biomarkers.

Specific areas to be covered include:
• How to approach your cardiac patients
• Importance of obtaining an accurate and thorough history
• How can you differentiate cardiac and respiratory disease?
• Investigative procedures- how to perform then
• Reaching a diagnosis with confidence
• Cardiac therapeutics- what are the options?
• Heart sounds session with audio of the important sounds
• Acquired heart disease
• Congenital heart disease
• Extensive case-based sessions in small groups help you to apply learning to practice
