Course outline
This two day course will help you get to grips with laboratory based medicine for your small animal patients. During the course you will develop an efficient approach to the selection of tests, together with methods and practical tips to help you obtain the best possible samples. We will combine this with guidelines for best practice laboratory management, to enable you to practise a logical and reproducible approach and obtain meaningful results in each case.
We will discuss your approach to your clinical patients and the subsequent interpretation of results from a variety of laboratory techniques. Problems and areas of difficulty that you will commonly encounter in practice will be illustrated and applied with case examples.
Specific areas to be covered include:
• Getting the right results: controlling error in laboratory medicine
• Regenerative and non regenerative anaemia
• Assessing leucocytes, including lymphoproliferative disease and leukaemias
• Coagulation disorders
• Clinicopathological changes in liver disease, renal disease and pancreatic disease
• Disorders of serum proteins
