The alpaca is one of four sub-species of South American Camelids. It is estimated that there will be soon over 70,000 of these animals in the UK, and this will bring an increased demand for veterinary attention from their owners.
This course is for you if you may be asked to treat an alpaca in the course of a days work. If you are a recent graduate who would like to gain competence in dealing with this species then this course will also be of great benefit for you.
Specific areas to be covered include:
• Essential husbandry for camelids
• What to look for in their teeth and alimentary system
• Common presentations: colic and recumbency
• The female camelid- parturition
• How to anaesthetise and sedate camelids
• Practical approach to castration
• Case studies relate theory to the types of presentations you are likely to be faced with in practice
