Course Outline
Are you a new graduate? Are you relatively inexperienced with horses? Do you need to be able to cope effectively with equine work for a wide variety of clients? Then this is the course for you.
During the day you will develop a logical and structured approach to your equine patients (and their owners!) and enhance your effectiveness when faced with a challenging situation. You will also be well placed to decide when referral is appropriate and what you can deal with yourself
Specific areas to be covered include:
• An A to Z of equine dermatology
• How to advise the pregnant mare owner, before, at and after foaling including problems of the young foal
• How to choose the correct antibiotic
• How to choose the correct NSAID
• Simple diagnostic tests which you can do in the field
• Essential dentistry - what do you need
• The colic case - how to assess and when to refer
• How to diagnose and treat the acutely ill horse
• Beginners guide to lameness
