Course outline
As a nurse working in a referral practice, you are expected to provide a high standard of anaesthetic support. Patients can be very challenging to deal with safely and effectively and expectations of owners and vets are high. Often there is not a vet with specialist anaesthesia qualifications available to train you in-house, so how do you provide the highest standard of care for your patients and ensure that you are up to date with drugs and protocols?
This course will help you; from a review of the basic foundations for anaesthesia in small animals, to specific considerations for working with your critical patients and those undergoing complex surgeries. We will work through case studies to relate to the types of patients that you are actually seeing and emphasise an integrated approach to monitoring and problem solving “on the job”.
Specific areas to be covered include:
• Anaesthesia for complex medical cases
• Analgesia; what, how and when?
• How to manage anaesthesia in your critical patients
• Considerations for complex surgeries
• New anaesthetic techniques- are you up to date?
• Practical fluid therapy
