Course outline
Clinical pathology and laboratory practice is at the hub of your practice’s diagnostic capability. Nurses with a good understanding of these areas are crucial to the smooth running of the practice. You play a vital role in the handling and analysing of diagnostic samples, both those done ‘in house’ and those referred to external or reference laboratories.

This course will provide you with the principles and confidence to handle a multitude of diagnostic samples productively, optimising the information obtained from every sample. A variety of areas including haematology, biochemistry, urinalysis and cytology will be addressed, focusing on what can be done effectively ‘in house’ but also with reference to external laboratory analysis.

Specific areas to be covered include:
• Quality control and assessment
• Sample artefacts – can we interpret the result?
• Urinalysis
• Haematology and haemostasis
• Introduction to cytology (sampling and examination)
• Case examples for illustration

Course fee
£250.00 + VAT (£293.75)
