Course outline
Diagnostic cytology is extremely useful for the investigation of numerous clinical problems, for example; skin masses and lymphadenopathy, masses within body cavities, joint disease, respiratory disease and body cavity effusions. This practical workshop will show you how cytology can be carried out in your practice. It will highlight the common pitfalls and show which diagnoses can be made in your practice lab and which samples are best sent off for an expert opinion.
Specific areas to be covered include:
• Sampling techniques- good technique is vital for reliable interpretation!
• Cytology of inflammation and neoplasia
• Evaluation of body cavity effusions, synovial fluid and CSF
• Practical microscopy workshop session
• Case-orientated lectures
