Course outline
Do you use ultrasonography in your practice? Would you like to incorporate echocardiography into your practice repertoire?
This course will:
• Help you to understand how echocardiography works
• Show you which patients and clinical applications you can use it in effectively
• Provide you with hands-on practical scanning sessions in small groups
• Allow you to learn and practise the essential techniques that you will need to get the best information from each of your patients
The course consists of three one day modules, scheduled so that you can practise what you have learned before attending the next session. On each module you will learn some theoretical aspects, discuss clinical applications and take part in practical sessions with a high tutor to delegate ratio. The group size will allow real hands-on teaching and plenty of essential interaction with the course tutors.
Specific areas to be covered include:
• Understanding ultrasound physics - the essentials
• Ultrasound machines for echocardiography - what do you need?
• Knobology - knowing how to get the most out of your machine
• Doppler - physics and applications / imaging techniques
• Echocardiography in myocardial and pericardial disease
• Non-cardiac thoracic disease
• Practical sessions - how to get a left sided view, Doppler views, Doppler measurement of inflow and outflow
• Advanced Doppler techniques - assessing diastolic function
• Echocardiography in the diagnosis of congenital heart disease
