Course outline
This two day practical ultrasound course is designed for vets in practice who have minimal or no ultrasound experience. A mixture of essential lectures and ‘hands-on’ practical scanning over the two days will provide an introduction to ultrasound and emphasise what you should be able to achieve in your practice. Practical guidance and tips provided by the expert tutors will help you to develop your skills.
Specific areas to be covered include:
• Ultrasound terminology
• Understanding the basic principles of ultrasound
• Getting to grips with the ultrasound machine and probes
• How to locate the bladder, kidneys, spleen, liver, gall bladder and prostate
• Normal appearance of the bladder, kidneys, spleen, liver, gall bladder and prostate
• Pregnancy diagnosis and identification of pyometra
• Recognising appearance of common diseases affecting the bladder, kidneys, spleen, liver and prostate
• Ultrasound vs. contrast radiography in the evaluation of the urinary tract
