Course outline
Ultrasound scanning is used increasingly as an aid to diagnosis in small animal patients. If you have little or no experience of using ultrasound then this practical one day course is an excellent way for you to get started. Seminars will teach you the basics of abdominal ultrasound and you can then practise scanning dogs yourself, with expert assistance and practical tips from the course tutor.
At the end of this course you will have a sound introduction to abdominal ultrasound and its uses in practice. You can build your 'hands-on' practical scanning experience to further develop your skills in this important diagnostic imaging modality.
Specific areas to be covered include:
• Choosing and using an ultrasound machine and probes - what should you buy?
• How to prepare your patients for optimum results and minimum stress while scanning
• Identifying artefacts in your scans
• Basic ultrasound techniques for examination of the liver, spleen, urinary and genital tracts
• Recognising commonly encountered conditions in abdominal scans
