Course outline
This module will provide a practical approach that you can follow in the investigation and management of cats with chronic renal failure, lower urinary tract disease and urethral obstruction. It will provide you with an overview of recent advances in our understanding of these very common conditions and use case examples to illustrate how you can apply this new information in a first opinion practice setting.
Specific areas to be covered include:
• Chronic renal failure
o Diagnostic tests – their uses and limitations
o A practical approach to treatment of CRF
o How to identify and manage the consequences of CRF to slow down progression of disease
• Lower urinary tract disease
o A practical approach to the investigation of cats presenting with “cystitis”
o Idiopathic lower urinary tract disease – what can we do?
o Options for analgesia
• Managing urethral obstruction
