Course outline
Infectious diseases, particularly viral diseases, are a crucial part of feline medicine. Some diseases are commonly seen in practice and others, whilst less common, are serious and often lead to death.
During this module we will review recent information about well recognised infectious diseases and update your knowledge on some of the more unusual infectious diseases which are now being recognised. Diagnostic tests and how to manage and treat these cats will be our main focus. We will also discuss changing attitudes to vaccination and suitable vaccination protocols for your feline patients.
Specific areas to be covered include:
• Acute upper respiratory tract viral disease - newly recognised clinical features
• Chlamydophila and Bordetella – how important are they?
• FeLV and FIV- how to use diagnostic tests effectively and FeLV vaccination
• FIP – review of current understanding and emphasis on diagnosis
• Newer infectious diseases including mycobacterial infections
• Vaccination protocols
