Course outline
Which feeding tube should I use? Which size tube? How much food do I give? Which connector? How do I safely drain a chest and how often does it need to be done? Advances in veterinary medicine go hand in hand with comprehensive nursing skills for our more intensive patients.
Veterinary accessories such as oesophagostomy feeding tubes, closed urinary collection systems and thoracic drains are becoming more customised and available for our use, however, we need to know what is available, how to apply them and how to safely and effectively maintain these essential aids. This course will provide you with the necessary theory combined with a very practical ‘hands-on’ approach to give you confidence in the use of a number of surgical and medical support systems relevant to small animal practice.
Specific areas to be covered include:
• Surgical drains
• Central venous catheters
• Thoracic drainage
• Tracheostomy tubes
• Enteral feeding
• Urinary catheters and collection systems
