Course outline
As a veterinary nurse you have an important role to play in the prevention of behavioural problems in your small animal patients, and in early identification of problems where they already exist. During this interactive course we will emphasise your role, and discuss the potential that you have to offer advice to new owners and owners of adolescent animals through puppy classes, kitten information evenings and clinics. We will use case examples to illustrate the early identification of behaviour problems and we will also look at the importance of small animal behaviour in everyday general practice situations.
Specific areas to be covered include:
• Advising breeders on behavioural issues
• How to advise new owners on problem prevention
• Running successful and effective puppy classes
• Offering kitten information evenings
• How to run an adolescent clinic
• Recognising the early signs of behavioural problems
• Considering behaviour in everyday veterinary nursing
