Course outline
Are you a competent surgeon who wants an introduction to the surgical procedures most commonly employed in the management of canine spinal disease? This course will guide you through the indications for surgery and the other options for management of these often challenging patients. We will discuss the management of intervertebral disc disease in details and the techniques discussed will also have a wider application - for example exploratory surgery in cases of suspected neoplasia.
Specific areas to be covered include:
• Clinical examination of the disc disease patient
• Diagnosis of intervertebral disc disease
• Decision-making principles and medical options
• Surgical approaches and techniques
• Complications of investigative and surgical techniques
• Extensive hands-on practical sessions allow you to practise the standard hemilaminectomy, modified hemilaminectomy and ventral slot techniques
