Course outline
The minimally invasive techniques of laparoscopy are widely used in human medicine and surgery. Now laparoscopy is becoming more accessible for you if you work in small animal practice, especially for procedures such as biopsies and various surgeries including ovariectomy and ovariohysterectomy. If you think that laparoscopy is something that should only ever be performed in a teaching hospital, this interactive course will change your view. On this course you will handle and use the types of equipment and instruments that you will need in your practice; practical ‘hands-on’ sessions with trainer models enable you to manipulate the instruments and work from the screen of the endoscope rather than watching your hands. Laparoscopy is fun and with practice and appropriate training and technique selection, you will find it very useful for your small animal patients.
Specific areas to be covered include:
• Interactive, case-oriented lectures
• Hands-on laboratory with endoscopes and trainers
• Explanation of advantages and pitfalls
• Which procedure for which patient?
• What is feasible for you in your practice?
• Abdominal and thoracic endoscopic surgery
