Course outline
Debilitating injuries involving the hock are commonly encountered in small animal practice. Dealing with these patients can be problematic and frequently it is necessary to carry out arthrodesis of the joint in order to salvage limb function. This course will help you to make decisions as to whether repair or salvage is most appropriate in any given patient. Extensive structured hands-on practical sessions under the guidance of the highly experienced and approachable tutors will enable you to develop your skills in the surgical management of the
most commonly seen injuries of this region.
Specific areas to be covered include:
• Tarsocrural injuries
• Achilles’ tendon injuries
• Proximal intertarsal luxation / arthrodesis
• Tarsometatarsal instability / arthrodesis
• Individual tarsal bone injuries
• Pantarsal arthrodesis
Is this course for me?
Yes, if you would like to develop your decision-making and surgical skills in patients with hock trauma. To attend this course, you must already be familiar with the application of bone plates and screws in the management of small animal fractures.
