Course outline
Injuries involving the distal forelimb are commonly encountered in small animal practice. Dealing with these injuries can be challenging and frequently it will be necessary to carry out joint arthrodesis in order to salvage the function of the limb. This course will help you to make decisions as to whether repair or salvage is most appropriate in any given patient. Extensive structured hands-on practical sessions under the guidance of the highly experienced and approachable tutors will enable you to develop your skills in the surgical management of the most commonly seen injuries of this region.
Specific areas to be covered include:
• Management of distal antebrachial fractures
• Assessment of the injured carpus and ligament failure
• Carpal collateral ligament repair / replacement
• Pancarpal arthrodesis
• Management of metacarpal and phalangeal fractures
Is this course for me?
Yes, if you would like to develop your decision-making and surgical skills in patients with trauma of the distal forelimb. To attend this course, you must already be familiar with the application of bone plates and screws in the management of small animal fractures.
