Course outline
Cranial cruciate ligament failure remains one of the most common orthopaedic injuries encountered in practice. After more than 50 years of refining the surgical technique for managing this condition, there are still many unanswered questions and a successful outcome following surgery is not guaranteed. There are numerous subtleties in surgical technique that can enhance both the quality of the surgery and the predictability of the outcome. This workshop will give you practical training in a wetlab setting in some of the fundamental techniques used for management of the cruciate deficient stifle joint. There will be ample opportunity for you to ask questions and discuss challenging aspects of the surgeries.
Specific areas to be covered include:
• Standard lateral approach to the stifle joint
• Limited medial/lateral arthrotomy
• Extracapsular stabilisation
• Self-locking knots
• Meniscal Examination and partial meniscectomy techniques
