Course outline
Plating is an essential technique for repairing many different types of fractures in your small animal patients. But how do you select the best cases for your first plating repairs, and then make the correct decisions for accurate and effective application? This one day practical course will teach you to apply plates and screws in the basic fracture scenarios that you will encounter in
practice. Use of cadaver limbs and models will allow you to practise in a realistic setting. An experienced and approachable tutor will help you during the practical sessions and provide you with essential practical tips throughout the course.
Specific areas to be covered include:
• Approach to fracture cases and treatment strategies
• Instrumentation for treatment of fractures using plates and screws
• Types of bone screws and their uses
• Application of plates in common situations
• Application of a plate and bone screws for radial fractures in cadavers
• Complications and how to avoid them
• Innovations and developments in bone plates
