Course outline
During this course we will cover two specific areas within veterinary ophthalmology that are not well catered for by current CPD courses. First is the very important area of ophthalmic manifestations of systemic disease. Do you know how to recognise systemic hypertension or hyperviscosity syndromes? Are you familiar with the ocular manifestations of infectious disease, from Angiostrongylus to Tuberculosis or Leishmaniasis? In all of these cases, examination of the eye can be instrumental in reaching a diagnosis. The second area that will be covered is ophthalmic neoplasia. Ocular lymphoma may be the presenting sign of multicentric disease, and
early recognition may improve your chances of successful treatment. Iris melanoma in the cat may metastasise with lethal consequences; it is essential to know how to recognise it! We will
use clinical case examples to provide an overview of neoplastic diseases in the eye from adnexal squamous cell carcinoma to retrobulbar melanoma.
Specific areas to be covered include:
• Recognising ophthalmic manifestations of systemic disease
• Infectious diseases
• Zoonotic diseases
• Systemic hypertension
• Hyperviscosity syndromes
• How to recognise ocular neoplasia
• Ocular lymphoma
• Overview of ocular neoplasia
